As a track and field athlete at Rice University, Philip Adam has dashed his way into the school's record books. Off the track, he's been hitting the books, too. In April, Adam received the Conference USA Commissioner’s Medal for his solid academic standing. It's an honor — and an education — that Adam might not have obtained without support from the Centennial Campaign.
Research aims to get every last drop out of oil wells
For companies drilling into the earth’s surface, the profitability of an oil well could boil down to a thin wall of graphene. That's where researchers from Rice University come in. The institution has reached an agreement with the world's largest producer of drilling fluids for the petrochemical industry to develop a graphene additive that will prevent oil shafts from clogging — and improve the productivity of wells.
