Apply for an Account
Go to http://apply.rice.edu to apply for accounts except for Oracle Calendar and VET accounts. You will need to submit a problem to gain access to those.
Owlnet
Owlnet accounts are available to everyone, and are automatically created. Everyone should have one already, so there's no need to apply. Owlnet labs are located throughout campus.
ADRice
Many Rice PC's require an ADRice account and password to login. In order to apply for an ADRice account, please go to http://apply.rice.edu.
Rice Unix Facility (RUF)
RUF (Rice Unix Facility) is for the general computing needs (email, Internet access, news, etc.) or use of robust statistical computing tools (on the VET server) of staff, faculty, and graduate students. RUF does not have any dedicated labs, it is accessed remotely via connections from the Rice network.
CWIS for Departments and Organizations
CWIS accounts are only granted for the construction and maintenance of official Rice University web pages for departments or organizations. (Note: Personal web pages are prohibited on CWIS but permitted on Owlnet and RUF.) An RT ticket is the best way to start the process of requesting a CWIS account.
Dialup Modem Pool
Dialup accounts permit modem access to the Rice campus network for faculty, staff, and students who need off-campus access.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
The Rice University Virtual Private Networking (VPN) System allows secure transportation of data between Rice University and a remote user connected to the Internet outside of Rice.
Oracle Calendar
Log a problem to request an Oracle Calendar account if you did not receive an account upon entering Rice. Oracle Calendar is a central calendar, time management and meeting scheduling system which has been licensed for all Rice faculty, staff and students. Many departments on campus are using this free service to help them schedule meetings, manage conference rooms, and maintain tasks lists. More information can be found on our calendar page.
VET
A statistical server, VET, houses multiple statistical applications, data archives, and individual accounts. You must have a VET account in order to have access to the VET server. To obtain a VET account, you need to first apply for a RUF account. After your RUF account is active, send e-mail to helpdesk@rice.edu requesting a VET account.
Owlspace (powered by Sakai)
Owlspace is the university's online application for course management and collaboration. From course chat and to document sharing among researchers, Owlspace provides tools to manage files, images, tests, grades, and projects.
