Information Technology

Welcome

To provide more self-service opportunities for Rice IT customers, we’ve created five distinct web sites. This allows you to find what you are searching for more easily.

IT

The first site, IT, is based on the top 10 questions asked or topics researched by IT customers. We also publish IT alerts and important messages for the campus on the home page for this site. This is the primary web site for Information Technology.

IT Tutorials

Our instructional or "how to" site is set up in a wiki called "docs.rice.edu" for it's location or simply IT Tutorials. Anything that is instructional will be found in this site. Unlike popular wikis such as Wikipedia, the IT wiki is writable only by IT staff and student workers. If you notice an out-of-date posting, please send a note to the Help Desk (helpdesk at rice dot edu). This is probably the most popular IT web site with students.

VPIT

The Vice Provost for Information Technology — or VPIT — site is where you can find details on our organization, policies & procedures, news articles about IT, details about our events, and our initiatives and goals. You can also find the IT Org Chart in this site; important announcements and IT alerts are mirrored on the home page for this site as well.

RiceNet

The RiceNet site serves as an archive of the new Rice network implementation, 2005-2008..

Technology Marketplace

Faculty, staff, and students can find discounts on all kinds of technology at the Technology Marketplace site.
