Baylor College of Medicine, in partnership with The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPan-Am), has received support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Division of Disadvantaged Assistance), to establish a model Hispanic Center of Excellence (HCOE) program in South Texas. This effort ultimately will increase the number of Hispanic physicians working in Hispanic communities. Baylor and the University of Texas-Pan American have developed a comprehensive program to achieve this end. One part of this program includes the use of advanced information technology. Baylor has contracted with Rice University to assist in the development of technological tools and resources to support this effort. The Hispanic Health Server you now are viewing is one of the components of this deployment; it will remain in a continuous state of development.
The goal of the HCOE is to graduate significantly greater numbers of Hispanic physicians to serve the medically underserved region of South Texas and to meet minority health care needs in general.
