To the submitter:

Only current Rice students will be allowed to submit to this database, one response per course. Your email address will be used for verification only and will not appear publicly.

Since this is an unofficial publication, we will not take any responsibility for what appears within our few humble pages. We will not censor out inflammatory, insulting or degrading remarks, though we ask you to be honest in what you write.

To the reader:

Only sites from within Rice University will be allowed to access the results of these surveys. Please, if you see something that offends you, calm down. We have not censored any controversial material in order to provide an unrestricted forum. Also, please be aware that some comments may be attempts to "get back at" a professor or to simply say something inflammatory. Please do not judge a class or professor based on just a few remarks. We are making a large effort to increase the submissions so that more information is available for an informed decision.

Also, if you happen to notice a page that appears to be incorrectly formatted or "trashed" in some way, please inform us by hitting the "Administrator" button and sending us a message.

Disclaimer: the submissions placed here are the original works of the authors of those submissions only. The opinions presented here do not necessarily represent those of the Administrators or any organization at Rice University. Explanation of Structure

The evaluations are structured into a 4 tier format. The first and highest level is index.html which contains links to the evaluation form, a list of courses, and a list of professors.

The professor and course lists represent the second tier and show in alphabetical order all of the professors and courses on which we have information. These lists are links to the third tier where information can be obtained on these professors and courses.

On a professor page, for example, you would find a list of courses the professor has taught and some statistics on that professor. This list of courses leads to the fourth and last tier (which can also be reached from a list of professors on a course page). These pages contain information on a course taught be a specific professor: statistics and comments. At any time you can return to the first tier by hitting the "top" button at the bottom of the page. To go back one tier, use the back button on your browser. Note, we highly recommend using netscape to fully take advantage of the formatting.

Explanation of Statistics

The numbered statistics are on a scale of 0 to 5 with 5 as the highest rating possible. Note that these statistics have different meanings depending on what type of page you are on. For instance, if you are on a page which contains statistics for a specific course, the Prof Quality statistic would be the average quality for all professors who have taught that course. On the other hand, if you are on a page containing statistics on a course taught by a specific professor, the Prof Quality statistic refers only to that professor.

Each course page has extra stats on the majors and years of the students who take the course.

You'll probably notice the "critic" silhouette indicating our general impression. This is determined by an average of the statistics on the quality of the course(s) and the quality of the professor(s). Difficulty is not taken into account.
