This week marked the first time in recent years that the
Campanile
has taken portraits of individual students for inclusion in
the annual yearbook.
This change in format results from a decision made by the editors after
students were surveyed earlier this year.
"Picture Yourself was rated very high on the survey but individual pictures
were also ranked high," Jones College junior and 1997-'98
Campanile
editor Sarah Clark said.
The time and space for student portraits on a campus-wide level were not
available, so the editors opted to include only seniors.
Campanile
photographers shot the pictures on Wednesday and Thursday. In
the first four hours of shooting alone, about 120 students were photographed.
"I always enjoyed Picture Yourself, but I also think these portraits are a
special way to remember the seniors," Brown College senior Rolonda Shine said.
The layout of the pictures is still undecided. However, they will almost
certainly be continued next year.
"Depending on how things work out this year, we'll decide whether or not to
keep them. People are really enjoying them so I'd say we'll probably keep them
next year," Clark said.
Clark added that another change sparked by the survey is the logistics of
Picture Yourself.
"Next year there will be two Picture Yourselves, one in fall and one in
spring," Clark said.
